Editorial take
AvaTrade has been operating since 2006 from Dublin and over time has accumulated four meaningful regulator licences — Central Bank of Ireland (its EU passport), ASIC in Australia, FSCA in South Africa and BVI for the offshore arm. The product set is unusually broad for a CFD provider: spot CFDs on MT4/MT5, AvaOptions for vanilla options, and the DupliTrade copy-trading network. Pricing is spread-only with no commission, which simplifies cost modelling but raises the per-trade ceiling versus ECN-style brokers.
The 0.9-pip typical EUR/USD spread is fine for swing or position trading but expensive for scalpers — at 1 lot you pay roughly $9 vs $7.50 on a commission-based pro account. AvaOptions is one of the few retail-accessible vanilla options books on a regulated platform, but liquidity outside major pairs is thin. If you trade primarily exotic FX or low-vol indices, recheck spreads at trade time rather than relying on the typical figure.
AvaTrade is unusually multi-licensed (Central Bank of Ireland, ASIC, FSCA, BVI, ADGM, FRSA Abu Dhabi, FFA Japan) and routes retail by residence. Standard pricing is spread-only (~1.2 pip EUR/USD typical, $0 commission). Account types include MT4, MT5, AvaTradeGo (proprietary mobile), and AvaOptions — vanilla options on FX are rare in retail, making AvaTrade one of the few mainstream brokers offering it. Best fit for swing-trade clients who want regulated multi-asset access through a single relationship; less competitive on per-lot cost for high-frequency scalping.

Who this fits
Fits if
- ✓You are AU or EU retail and want CBI + ASIC double cover with 20 years of operating history
- ✓You prefer spread-only pricing with no commission math — 0.9 pip typical is stable at ~$9/lot round-turn
- ✓You're into copy trading — DupliTrade integration is the strongest of our brokers
- ✓You want 1,400+ CFDs across forex, indices, stocks, commodities in one account
- ✓You have $100+ and want a straightforward single-tier account (not Standard vs Raw)
Avoid if
- ✕You live in the US, UK, Belgium, New Zealand, India, Russia/Belarus, Lebanon, or OFAC-sanctioned countries — 20 jurisdictions total
- ✕You scalp or day-trade at volume — $9/lot round-turn is 40–50% more than ECN peers at similar size
- ✕You deposit and trade infrequently — the $50-per-3-months inactivity fee + $100 annual admin after 12 months is among the more aggressive in our list
- ✕You want crypto funding — AvaTrade does not offer crypto deposits or withdrawals
- ✕You want flexible card withdrawals — closed-loop policy requires 100% of the deposit returned to the same card first
